Griffins Open Conference Play with 4-3 win over Jefferson

aA doubles sweep and three singles  wins propelled the Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis team to a 4-3 win over conference and area rival Jefferson University Monday afternoon at TJU's Abraham J. Salaman Tennis Courts in Philadelphia.

The Griffins even their record at 1-1 with the win and are 1-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference matches.  The Rams fall to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Chestnut Hill looked solid in doubles action, completing a sweep of all three doubles contests, their first sweep against the Rams since the 2015 season. 

Alison Isaac and Elena Arenas Guisasola started things off with a 6-1 win over Zenia Barretto and Emily Frost at #2 doubles.  Claudia Rasilla and Annabel Snow followed with a 6-2 win over Rose Huang and Anna Morgillo at #3 doubles to clinch the doubles point for the Griffins and give the squad an early 1-0 lead.

Chestnut Hill was not finished yet in doubles play as Lilian Bandel and Romi Meirovich  rallied from a 4-3 deficit at #1 doubles, winning three straight games to earn a 6-4 win over Nicole Hrbkova and Alycia Veroux  to complete the sweep.

The Rams tied the match with a win at #4 singles before Isaac put the Griffins back on top with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Veroux at #1 singles.  Rasilla gave the Griffins a 3-1 lead as she defeated  Frost 6-3, 6-4 at #6 singles.

Jefferson clawed back with a three set win at #5 singles to make the score 3-2 before Bandel clinched the match for Chestnut Hill with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Barretto at #4 singles. 

The Rams added one last point with a three set win at #2 singles to make the final score 4-3.

The women's tennis team returns to action at the ITA Small College East Regional Championships starting this Friday in Queens, New York.
