New Haven, Conn. - (6/10/2013) – Released Wednesday, June 5, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) announced the 120 members of the 2013 CACC Spring All-Academic Team. Chestnut Hill College was represented by eight individuals, five coming from the Griffin baseball program. In order to be named to the CACC Spring All-Academic team, recipients must have participated in a CACC-Championship spring sport. They must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have been a student-athlete at their current school for at least two semesters, while accumulating a 3.50 or higher grade point average (GPA) through the most current semester.

The record 120 student-athletes who made the 2013 CACC Spring All-Academic Team, hailing from the 14 CACC-member institutions, is 13 more than in 2012. Of those earning recognition, 24 student-athletes were named to the team for the third time in their careers, 34 were repeat selections, and 62 student-athletes earned CACC All-Academic honors for the first time. Softball offered 46 selections as the top performing spring sport; baseball registered 28, women's lacrosse tallied 23, men's golf totaled 13 and men's tennis added 10.

CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-American, graduate shortstop Joseph Crane (Churchville, Pa.) was one of eight Griffins to make the grade in the 2013 spring semester. As psychology graduate student-athlete, Crane carried a 3.95 GPA and finished his collegiate career at Chestnut Hill College eighth all-time in hits (85) and tied for sixth all-time in runs-batted-in (RBI, 60).

Also earning CACC All-Academic status this spring were softball's senior utility Veronica Wilenta (Brick, N.J.) and senior pitcher Mandi Rush (Royersford, Pa.), women's lacrosse's junior attack Kelly Campbell (Hatboro, Pa.), and four of Crane's teammates; juniors, outfielder Desmond Lites (Philadelphia, Pa.) and utility Joseph Mullin (Warrington, Pa.), and sophomores, infielder Taylor Steen (New Egypt, N.J.) and pitcher Seamus Finnegan (Collegeville, Pa.). Wilenta was the Griffins only three-time recipient while Campbell joined Crane as a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection earlier this year.
