Philadelphia, Pa. – (5/20/2013) – The Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team broke new ground in 2012-2013, following in the footsteps of their female counterparts, with a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Championship Tournament appearance. Despite dropping a 5-1 East Regional decision at #3 Merrimack College, on April 28, the Griffins enjoyed the best season in program history with a 16-9 overall record and 5-1 standing in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).

Chestnut Hill College (16-9, 5-1) made their first NCAA DII Championship Tournament by first challenging #6 Concordia College (NY) for the CACC crown. After defeating the third-seeded, Philadelphia University 5-0 in the semifinals, the Griffins looked to shock the four-time defending CACC Champions. Unfortunately, despite the All-Tournament level play of junior Anthony Moore (Williamstown, N.J.) and sophomore Steven Say (Cannes, France), the Clippers managed to continue their reign with a 5-0 victory.

The Griffins opened the 2012-2013 season with a 3-2 fall record, before resuming the campaign with a strong showing at the Drew University Invitational and a 2-1 effort on their Florida Spring Trip. After returning home, at 5-3 overall, a rejuvenated Griffin squad launched a six-match win streak that included a CACC doubleheader shutout on March 23, winning 9-0 against both Post University and Caldwell College. The Griffins went 5-4 through the remainder of the regular season, earning conference wins over the University of the Sciences (USciences), 6-3 on April 2, Philadelphia University, 9-0 on April 5, and Bloomfield College, 9-0 on April 13, to receive their highest CACC Championship Tournament seeding ever; #2.

Moore and sophomore Michael Humes (Mount Laurel, N.J.) represented Chestnut Hill College on the All-CACC Second Team. Humes earned a #15 Individual East Regional Ranking from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) with a 17-8 singles record; 15-9 at number one singles. Meanwhile, Moore concluded the year with an 11-5 individual mark; primarily playing at number three singles (8-4). In doubles, Humes teamed up with junior Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) a 19-2 record; 11-4 at number three doubles, while Moore teamed with freshman Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.) to finish 8-11 overall; 5-10 at number two doubles. At season's end, Humes was recognized as the Griffins Most Valuable Player (MVP), while Moore garnered the team's Coach's Award.

Other notable contributions came from junior Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France), Say, and Taylor. Pham and Say were tied for #10 in the ITA East Regional Doubles Rankings. They posted a 13-6 mark in the number one team flight and finished the year at 15-7, including tournament play at Villanova University Fall Invitational, the ITA East Regional, and the Drew University Spring Invitational. Taylor offered the team's best individual mark in his rookie campaign, as he earned three CACC Rookie of the Week awards with an 18-5 standing between numbers four (4-0), five (6-4, and six (5-1) singles.
