North Andover, Mass. – (4/28/2013) – In their first National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Championship appearance, the Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team battled #3 Merrimack College to a 5-1 defeat. Sophomore
Steven Say (Cannes, France) and junior
Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) scored the Griffins lone point with an enduring 9-7 victory at number one doubles, unfortunately the rest of the lineup could not come through as the Warriors won the remaining team matches and the first three singles points.
Merrimack College (15-4) used their home court advantage to grab a 2-1 lead over Chestnut Hill College (16-9) with wins in the bottom two doubles flights. The Warriors made their way to points at number three and number two doubles, 8-3 and 9-7, respectively. Say and Pham aimed to derail the momentum with a 9-7 number-three one doubles triumph over freshman Matt Pronesti (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and freshman Matt Lapinski (Arlington, Mass.). Unfortunately, the Warriors could not be denied as they ended the match with the first three wins of individual play going in their favor.
The men's tennis team finishes the 2012-2013 season, their best in program history, at 16-9 overall and 5-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. They challenged #10 Concordia College (NY) for the CACC Championship and placed two student-athletes on the All-CACC Team in junior
Anthony Moore (Williamstown, N.J.) and sophomore
