Bears Beat Griffins In Final Regular Season Match

Old Westbury, N.Y. – (4/14/2013) – Concluding their 2012-2013 regular season, Chestnut Hill College played a challenging regional match at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). The Griffins held a 2-1 advantage after earning doubles victories in the first and third flights, but the Bears came away victorious on their home courts, besting the Griffins in four of six singles matches. Sophomore Steven Say (Cannes, France) continued his recent strong play as they only Griffins to win in both formats.
 
Say first teamed with junior Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) at number one doubles for an 8-5 win and later figured as one of two singles points for Chestnut Hill College (15-7). The Griffins other doubles point came at number three where sophomore Michael Humes (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and junior Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) combined for an 8-4 victory. NYIT (11-8) avoided the sweep with an 8-6 win at number two doubles.
 
They home team finally got comfortable in singles, overpowering the Griffins with wins at number one, number two, five, and six singles. The Bears immediately erased the Griffin advantage with victories at number one singles 6-0, 6-1, number two singles 6-3, 6-3, and number six singles 6-4, 6-1. Freshman Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.) gave more resistance at number five singles, attempting to slow the Bears in a  6-0, 7-6 (7-2) defeat. The Griffins won their only individual matches at number three and number four singles where Say and junior Anthony Moore (Williamstown, N.J.) battled for success. Say won at number four singles 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 14-12 while Moore took number three singles 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).
 
The men's tennis team plays end the 2012-2013 regular season at 15-7 overall and 5-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play, they compete next in the semifinal round of the CACC Championship Tournament, which will be hosted at Chestnut Hill College on Saturday, April 20.
