Philadelphia, Pa. – (1/7/2013) – It is with great pride and enthusiasm that Chestnut Hill College congratulates
Daniel Comas '12 on becoming the first student-athlete from the College's National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) era to play professional sports. The Griffins third all-time leading scorer (1,311 points) has signed a contract to play for Global Select, formerly the
Washington Generals, the lovable foils to the world famous
Harlem Globetrotters.
Comas has already begun providing competition for the legendary hardwood heroes as John Ferrari, General Manager of the Global Select officially announced, "
Dan Comas was chosen to play for the Global Select as opposition to the world famous Harlem Globetrotters". Dan will be touring the U.S. and Canada until the end of April. Dan has played in several cities so far including Chicago, Milwaukee, and Green Bay." Humbled by the opportunity to travel the world doing something he loves, Comas issued in response,
It is great to have an opportunity to play professional basketball and play in front of thousands of people each and every night. My team is filled with outstanding players from all over the world. I'm thrilled to play against the Harlem Globetrotters, who are some of the best athletes that I have ever gotten a chance to play against.

At Chestnut Hill College, Comas was a three-time All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) performer, earning an honorable mention as a sophomore, a Second Team selection as a junior, and a Third Team honor is his senior campaign. As a sophomore, 2009-2010, Comas had a breakout season averaging 11.1 points-per-game (PPG) and 10.0 rebounds-per-game (RPG). As a junior, 2010-2011, his first season as team co-captain, Comas continued his fabulous career by earning the team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) award as the team leader in scoring (16.2 PPG), rebounding (10.0 RPG), and blocks (32). He finished among the league's top ten in six statistical categories and led the Griffins to their first-ever appearance in the CACC Semifinals. In his senior season, 2011-2012, Comas was one of three Griffins to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Less than a week after classmate
Brandon Williams '12 achieved the milestone on November 22, 2011, Comas recorded nine points in a 72-67 loss to West Chester University to become the program's fifth such honored student-athlete. That year, he earned his second team MVP honor while averaging 14.0 PPG and 8.0 RPG to go along with his 31 assists, 21 blocks, and 32 steals.
As the head coach and patriarch of the Chestnut Hill College men's basketball program, a delighted
Jesse Balcer summed up Comas' outstanding accomplishment,
Dan Comas is a great young man who has a tremendous work ethic. I am not surprised that he has been afforded the opportunity to play basketball professionally as well as see the country. He has been a hard worker since the day he set foot on this campus. I am very happy for him and proud to name him as an alum of the Chestnut Hill Men's Basketball Program.”
