Perry, NY – (5/7/2012) – Chestnut Hill College finished the 2012 season on Saturday, May 5, with a 9-6 defeat of C.W. Post University, earning them votes in the final regular season United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Coaches' Poll. The Griffins finished the 2012 season at 8-6 overall and 5-5 in the East Coast Conference (ECC), a two-game improvement in the Griffins second season under Head Coach
Brian Dougherty.
Chestnut Hill College (8-6, 5-5) stole the momentum from C.W. Post University as play entered the second quarter in last Saturday's ECC contest behind a four-goal performance from sophomore attack
Mike Melnychenko (St. Catharines, Ontario) and a stellar showing in net by senior goalkeeper
Dakota Maurer (Lititz, PA). Melnychenko gave the Griffins the lead with 12:52 with the contest's first tally, 1-0, and after a Pioneer penalty the lead advanced to 2-0 on a man-up goal from sophomore attack
Kevin Sonderschafer (Warrington, PA) at 7:02. The Griffins would hold the lead for the duration of the affair with Melnychenko adding the eventual game-winner, in man-down fashion, early in the fourth quarter (12:28), 7-4.
Along with the Griffins, four fellow ECC members were mentioned in this week's poll; #1 Mercyhurst College, #4 Dowling College, #6 New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), and #8 Seton Hill College. For complete results of the USILA's Coaches' Poll for May 7, 2012, please use the provided
