Griffins Battle Valiantly In First NCAA DII Championship Appearance

Manchester, NH – (4/28/2012) – Chestnut Hill College battled Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) to a 5-3 defeat in the Griffins first appearance in a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Championship Tournament. In the middle of the lineup, freshman Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, PA) and junior Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) went undefeated, but the Penmen advanced a 2-1 doubles lead to victory with wins at number two, five, and six singles.
 
Parapouras and Oechsle teamed for an 8-5 win at number two doubles, giving Chestnut Hill College (19-7) their only point in the opening round of doubles, 2-1. The Griffins evened the score at 2-2 when Oechsle won number four singles 6-1, 6-2. The Penmen responded with a win at number six singles, 6-3, 6-1, but Parapouras brought all things even only minutes later with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number three singles, 3-3. Unfortunately, the Penmen brought the match to a close with their last two points coming at number five singles, 6-1, 7-5, and number two singles, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1.
 
The women's tennis team ends their most successful season in program history at 19-7 after enjoying a second place finish in the CACC with a 7-1 league standing.
