Jesse Daywalt (Phoenixville, PA) was selected to the 2012 Preseason National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) All-East Region Second Team. Daywalt garnered all-region status from the NCBWA and
Daktronics Inc. last spring, after earning an All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) First Team selection for leading the Griffins to their second consecutive CACC Championship Tournament.
Daywalt was one of the main cogs in the Griffins return to the CACC postseason and received the baseball team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) award as a result. He started all 38 games at second base for Chestnut Hill College (16-22, 10-10), while providing a .333 (46-for-138) batting average, 17 runs-batted-in (RBI), and stealing ten bases (10-for-15, 66.7%) from the number two spot in the lineup. Daywalt was a one-time CACC Player of the Week (4/4) and a one-time honorable mention (3/14) for the award while ranking 26
th nationally (NCAA DII, 5/8) for Toughest Player to Strikeout (16.8 AB/K). He also ranked among the top three in the nation in sacrifice bunts (.35/game). Daywalt was an All-CACC Honorable Mention as a sophomore.
The NCBWA was founded in 1962 and is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Members of the NCBWA included writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport, who vote on the recipients of the annual Dick Howser Trophy (Player of the Year), Regional Players of the Year and NCBWA All-American. The NCBWA also sponsors publication and writing contests.
