Griffins Unite For Victory over Mighty Macs

Lafayette Hill, PA – (4/13/2011) – Chestnut Hill College opened this evening's contest with a five-goal run against Immaculata University. The Griffins led 7-2 at halftime and outscored the Mighty Macs 3-0 in the third quarter, 10-2, before sweeping their non-conference schedule with a 13-5 triumph. Five Griffins finished with at least three points, headlined by four goals and an assist from freshman attack Mike Melnychenko (St. Catharines, Ontario).
 
Melnychenko deposited the first three goals for Chestnut Hill College (6-4), who stunned Immaculata University (4-7) with a 6-1 first-quarter advantage. Each side offered a goal in the second quarter leaving the halftime margin at five, 7-2. The Griffins applied pressure in the third quarter with freshman midfielder Mike Landau (Lancaster, PA) sparking a 6-1 run, 13-3, that spilled into the final period. The Mighty Macs were the only ones to score in the final 9:29, but did so only twice despite several attempts, 13-5.
 
Junior attack Dante Tuscai (West Chester, PA) was responsible for three of the Mighty Macs five goals. His brother, sophomore midfielder Ben Tuscai (West Chester, PA) assisted him on two of them. Sophomore midfielder Mike Boyd (Collegeville, PA) scored the other Mighty Mac goal; he also recorded three ground balls and a caused turnover. Freshman goalkeeper Jon Diodati (West Chester, PA) made seven saves in the loss (4-7).
 
Landau totaled three goals to join Melnychenko with multiple tallies. Sophomore attack Shane Morlock (Whitby, Ontario), sophomore midfielder Mark Winkelspecht (Laurys Station, PA), and junior attack Kevin Festa (Auburn. NY) each provided a goal and two assists while freshman Chris Schaffer (Lititz, PA) helped sophomore goalkeeper Dakota Maurer (Lititz, PA) on the defensive end. Schaffer recovered three ground balls and caused three turnovers. Maurer made 16 saves in the win (6-4).  
 
The men's lacrosse team resumes their East Coast Conference (ECC) schedule with a trip to the New York Institute of Technology on Saturday, April 16. Opening faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
