New Haven, CT – (10/18/2011) – Freshman
Joseph Trujillo (Derry, NH), who has led Chestnut Hill College all season, was the first Griffin across the finish line at this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Meet. He completed the five mile course through Belmont Plateau with a time of 29:13.34, good enough for 17
th place. The Men's cross country team totaled 245 team points in the race to place ninth of 11 teams; Felician College repeated as conference champions with 25 team points and five runner placing among the top ten finishers. Philadelphia University women won their fourth straight CACC Meet with four of the top ten runners and 28 team points.
Chestnut Hill College had two competitors in the women's five kilometer (5K) race, freshman
Isabella Murray (Summerfield, NC) crossed 48
th with a time of 23:57.22 and junior
Rosa Iott (Groton, CT) finished 78
th, running a 30:56.30. Philadelphia University was led by a first place run from senior Sarah Simonetti (Perkasie, PA), who completed the course in 18:43.21.
Trujillo was supported by seniors
Owen Ward (Croydon, PA),
Julius Twyman (Coatesville, PA) and
Jeremy Goerlich, and freshman
Adam Drabinski (Drexel Hill, PA). Ward joined Trujillo among the top 50 men's finishers; he placed 40
th with a time of 31:09.35. Twyman was next in 52
nd with a time of 32:51.01. He was followed by a 66
th place (36:58.18) finish from Goerlich and a 70
th place (42:55.74) run from Drabinski. Felician College's junior, Rob Albano (Pompton Plains, NJ) was the race's first finisher, 26:35.54.
Albano and Simonetti was recognized as the CACC Male and Female Runners of the Year, respectively. Philadelphia University also offered the CACC Men's Rookie of the Year, freshman Tim Malloy (Haddonfield, NJ), as well as the CACC Women's Rookie of the Year, freshman Taylor Falvey (York, PA) and the CACC Women's Coach of the Year, Dave Thomas. Felician College also earned the men's CACC Team Sportsmanship award and head coach, John Brennan, garnered CACC Coach of the Year honors. Nyack College received the Anne Jackson Memorial Team Sportsmanship Award for the women's side.
The Chestnut Hill College cross country teams compete next at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) East Regional Meet in Boston, Massachusetts, on Sunday, November 6.
