Philadelphia, PA – (8/27/2010) – Director of Athletics and Recreation, Lynn Tubman, is happy to announce the hire of Denise Poole as the College's new Assistant Director of Athletics for Academic Success and Community Engagement.
We are excited to have Denise join the department. The NCAA Strategic Alliance Grant has provided the College an opportunity to hire a new assistant athletic director that will directly impact and improve the student-athlete experience at Chestnut Hill College. Denise's background will allow her to make immediate contribution to our programs and our student-athletes' academic and social development.
A new position in the Department of the Athletics, the Assistant Director of Athletics for Academic Success and Community Engagement is responsible for developing an academic advising structure of the College's student-athletes. Chestnut Hill College was selected as one of eight National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II institutions to receive a Strategic Alliance Matching Grant, which was used to generate the position.
A graduate of St. Joseph's University, Poole returns to the Philadelphia area after establishing herself professionally at New York University (NYU). Poole served NYU as Coordinator of Academic Services and Compliance Officer. Monitoring and advising student-athletes for 21 varsity programs and eight club teams, she acted as the student-athletes' primary liaison between athletics and the University's administrative offices. Poole assisted and counseled student-athletes' in all matters concerning the compliance, academics, time management, and personal well being. Prior to working at New York University, Poole served as a program manager and academic coach at Drexel University.
While attending St. Joseph's University, Poole enjoyed four year of running for the Hawks' women's cross country team. She is still active with the program, serving as a member of the Alumni Track Club and Event Planning Committee. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology. Poole's graduate education took her to Northeastern University, where she earned a master's degree in applied educational psychology with a concentration in college student development and counseling. At Northeastern University, Poole also worked for Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) as an Academic Advisor and Student-Athlete Mentor. She currently resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with her husband Erik.
